SSU notifies suspicion in absentia to russian brigade commander and eight soldiers who tortured civilians during Kyiv region occupation

The Security Service has collected evidence against another nine russian war criminals involved in mass torture of civilians during the temporary occupation of Kyiv region.

The first individual involved is russian colonel Azatbek Omurbekov, commander of the 64th separate motorized rifle brigade of the 35th combined arms army of the aggressor state.

During the capture of Andriivka village in Bucha district, the ruscist gave orders to carry out repressions against local residents in order to identify members of the resistance movement.

Among his subordinates who carried out the criminal order was sergeant Petro Zakharov, senior scout of the enemy unit’s reconnaissance battalion.

According to the investigation, he imprisoned four residents of the village, who were brutally tortured on Omurbekov’s orders.

The SSU also documented the war crimes committed by seven other occupiers from the 37th separate motorized rifle brigade of the 36th combined arms army of russia’s Eastern military district.

These include the commander of a platoon of the enemy unit, sergeant Andriy Karkin, and his subordinates:

  • sergeant Timur Danchenko, commander of a combat vehicle;
  • corporal Leonid Semenov;
  • corporal Chingis Radnaev;
  • private Aleksander Zaitsev;
  • private Artem Perevozkin;
  • private Yevgeny Shirokin.

According to the investigation, at the end of February 2022 they participated in the capture of Vyshehrad village in Bucha district. At that time, they imprisoned 11 local residents in a 10 m² cellar for almost two weeks.

Based on the evidence, SSU investigators notified the russian citizens in absentia of suspicion of crimes under Articles 28.2, 438.1 of the CCU (war crimes, committed by a group, upon prior conspiracy).

Efforts to bring them to justice are underway.

The investigation was carried out by the SSU Office in Kyiv and Kyiv region under the procedural supervision of Kyiv Region Prosecutor’s Office.
