SSU declares chief army psychiatrist suspect for laundering USD 1 mln

The Security Service of Ukraine has documented new crimes committed by the chief psychiatrist of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In January 2025, the SSU Military Counterintelligence, with the assistance of the AFU Commander-in-Chief, exposed him for illegal enrichment and for declaring false information.

According to the investigation, the official, who is also the head of a psychiatric clinic, received almost USD 1 million in shadow ‘profits’.

It has now been established that the perpetrator also legalised this money by purchasing elite real estate and premium-class cars, registering them on close relatives.

One such asset is an apartment in a new building on Odesa’s coast, registered in his daughter’s name, as well as a cottage near Kyiv, which he registered in his stepson’s name.

He also registered three BMW cars (X3, X5, and X7) manufactured in 2022, 2023, and 2024 in his children’s names.

Based on the new evidence, SSU investigators notified the official of suspicion under Article 209.3 of the CCU (laundering of property obtained by criminal means, committed by an organised group).

The suspect faces up to 12 years in prison and confiscation of property.

The investigation was carried out under the procedural supervision of the Specialised Defence Prosecutor’s Office.
