SSU, PGO, and SBI declare new suspicion against high-ranking NABU official in custody: he helped ‘conversion centers’ commit fraud (video)
The Security Service of Ukraine, the Prosecutor General’s Office, and the State Bureau of Investigations have declared new suspicions against one of the heads of the interregional detective departments of the NABU, who is currently in custody on suspicion of aiding the aggressor state.
The investigators have established that, in addition to helping his father trade with russia, the high-ranking NABU official exploited his connections and official influence to engage in illegal tax fraud involving Ukrainian businesses.
The SSU, PGO, and the SBI obtained the information confirming this from the suspect’s phone.
According to the investigation, in spring this year the official received an offer from one of his contacts to resolve problematic issues with the tax authorities for several Ukrainian companies.
According to their texting, this involved the State Tax Service of Ukraine making unlawful decisions to remove approximately ten companies from the list of risky entities. This would allow the interested parties to carry out financial transactions worth almost UAH 30 mln (USD 724,000).
The analysis of these companies’ activities indicates that they may be part of a ‘conversion center’.
In exchange for this ‘favour’, the contact promised to transfer an illegal benefit – UAH 900,000 – to the senior NABU official.
The investigation found that the Bureau detective accepted this proposal and attempted to resolve the issue through a former senior official of the State Tax Service. He also sought assistance in this matter from a law enforcement officer he had worked with at NABU for some time. During the questioning, the stated individuals confirmed that the NABU employee had indeed approached them with such a request.
Based on the evidence, the NABU official in custody has been notified of a new suspicion under Article 369-2.2 of the CCU (abuse of influence).
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
We emphasize once again that this criminal proceeding concerns an individual employee of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau and has no bearing on the Bureau’s effective work as a Ukrainian state institution. As before, the Security Service advocates constructive cooperation to strengthen institutional capacities, eliminate pro-russian influence, and enhance the independence of our state.
