SSU’s Alfa sets record for shooting down enemy aircraft-type UAVs (video)
The Alfa Special Operations Centre of the Security Service of Ukraine has set a record for destroying enemy aircraft-type unmanned aerial vehicles among all units of Ukraine’s Defence Forces in 2025.
Over the year, Alfa’s interceptor crews shot down 2,220 enemy drones, achieving the highest efficiency rate in this segment of air defence.
Among the downed targets were the enemy’s strike and reconnaissance UAVs, including Shahed, Geran, Molniya, Lancet, Zala, Orlan, Merlin, Italmas, Skat, and other types of drones that russia actively uses to terrorise Ukrainian cities and conduct aerial reconnaissance.
Particular emphasis should be given to the high-value targets: SSU Alfa operators have destroyed russian medium-altitude, long-endurance strike and reconnaissance UAVs, such as the Orion, each of which is estimated to cost over USD 5 million.
The unit’s systematic work to intercept russian UAVs significantly degrades the adversary’s ability to conduct reconnaissance and launch new strikes, while directly enhancing the protection of Ukrainian cities, Defence Forces positions and critical infrastructure.
