SBU CI Department blocks large-scale scheme of Russian nationals’ legalization of EU country

SBU CI Department uncovered and stopped illicit activities on legalising Russian citizens on the territory of EU countries.

According to the investigation, the mechanism of illegal naturalization was organized by Ukrainian national. The officials of the justice departments of one of the EU countries, as well as foreign lawyers and notary officers carried out deals in two stages: initially, the suspect was searching for clients in Russia and producing fake documents in order to obtain EU citizenship under accelerated procedure.

Then, the attacker, using corruption ties with justice departments and foreign lawyers, provided positive outcomes, language proficiency examinations, oaths taking and other procedures as well. Allegedly, in this way more than one hundred Russians were legalized on a monthly basis. 

During the investigative actions, law-enforcement officers seized evidences of large-scale illegal legalization of more than a thousand Russia and the CIS countries nationals.

The investigations are under way. All the circumstances of the case and other persons involved, including foreigners, are being established.
