Employees of the Counter-Intelligence Dept. of the Security Service of Ukraine together with the investigators of National Police in Kyiv under the procedural guidance of the Kyiv Local Prosecutor's Office No. 6, discovered a place for illegal storage of a military aviation weaponry.
Special service operatives found that the inhabitants of the capital kept military munitions in one of the private houses the Novosilky village, Makariv district of the Kyiv region. In the course of authorized investigations, law enforcement officers seized six standard UB-32 units for firing unguided missiles S-5 intended for use on MiG-21 fighter jets, MiG-27 bomber fighters and Mi-24 combat helicopters.
According to the collected intelligence, the found weapons were earmarked for export, in violation of the established export control regime, to some African countries for use in military conflicts.
As a result of the measures taken, law enforcement officers thwarted the implementation of the supply of military goods to countries under international sanctions by the UN Security Council. According to experts' findings, unlawful actions could have discredited Ukraine on the global arms market due to non-compliance with international norms, leading to sanctions against our state.
Urgent investigative actions are under way for bringing to the criminal responsibility other offenders involved in the unlawful actions and identifying the origin of the weaponry.
