SBU uncovers a corrupt head of a fishery inspection unit in Odesa region
The SBU officers uncovered a corrupt head of a fishery inspection unit in Odesa region, in cooperation with the Military Prosecutor’s Office.
The law enforcers established that the official systematically extorted money from businessmen for free fishing activity. In particular, monthly “ticket” for illegal fishing cost UAH 18,000 (USD 720). Without bribing the official, no businessman could catch fish in Danube and Danubian basin in southern part of Odesa region, says SBU.
The SBU operatives apprehended the inspector’s associate, his civilian assistant, in his office on receiving a regular part of the bribe. The SBU operatives had previously documented several facts of money collection by the offender.
