SBU detains two border guards for assistance in smuggling of cigarettes to Europe in Transcarpathian region
The SBU officials jointly with the Military Prosecutor’s Office and the State Border Guard Service Internal Security detained two border guards, who assisted in smuggling of cigarettes to Europe in Transcarpathian region.
The law enforcers established that one of the heads of the Border Guard Service divisions of Mukachivskii unit and one of the heads of the operational-investigative divisions of the Western Office of the Border Guard Service “assisted” the local residents to smuggle the cigarettes out of the checkpoints. The criminals imposed a tariff of 50-70 USD for each parcel of cigarettes.
The SBU officials documented several facts of bribes taken by the border guards from the smugglers and detained the bribetakers in their offices.
Both detainees were notified of suspicion of committing a crime under Part 2 Article 364 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The issue of choosing the measure of restraint is being settled.
The pre-trial investigation is under way.
