SBU exposes corrupt deputy of Cherkasy Regional Council
SBU officers uncovered a corrupt deputy of the Cherkasy Regional Council.
Special service operatives established that the official, together with one of the managers of State Service for Geodesy and Cartography in the Cherkasy region and a village council deputy, organized an illegal mechanism for the systematic reception of unlawful benefits from businessmen for assistance in the allocation of land plots.
In particular, SBU officers documented that the offenders planned to receive USD 140,000 from a construction firm representative, for the allocation of five hectares of land in one of the settlements of the region.
Law enforcers arrested the deputy of Regional Council in Cherkasy, on his receiving USD 10,000, a part of the bribe.
The detained was served a notice of suspicion of committing a crime under Part 4 of Art. 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The pre-trial investigation regarding his accomplices is ongoing.
Operation was run by the officers of the SBU Main Department for Fighting Corruption and Organized Crime, jointly with special-purpose unit “K” and SBU investigators, under the procedural supervision of the General Prosecutor’s Office.
