Kharkiv region: SBU uncovers corrupt official of State Border Guard Service
SBU officers exposed a corrupt shift supervisor at a border crossing point within Kharkiv Border Detachment.
The SBU operatives established that the official extorted money from the residents of the temporarily occupied districts of Donetsk and Luhansk regions for entering to the database the information about fictitious border crossing. In fact, the people did not leave the temporarily occupied territory - the false information provided by the State Border Guard Service was used to pay them pensions and other social payments from the state budget of Ukraine.
According to the SBU, unlawfully received budget money was used to finance illegal armed groups, too.
During the pre-trial investigation, the SBU officers documented that the official received an unlawful benefit amounting to over UAH 150,000 (USD 5,660).
The offender was served a notice of suspicion in committing the crime stipulated by Part 3 Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The urgent investigations to bring other officials involved in the illegal activities to criminal responsibility are under way.
The operation was conducted jointly with the State Bureaux of Investigation with the assistance of the Internal Security Division of the State Border Guard Service under the procedural guidance of the Military Prosecutor's Office.
