SBU exposes corrupt head of Zhytomyr customs post
Officers of the SBU Main Department for Fighting Corruption and Organized Crime exposed a bribe-taking head of Zhytomyr customs post.
Special service operatives found that the official extorted USD 1,300 from representative of commercial structure that deals in foreign trade. For this amount, the criminal promised free customs clearance for wood export. SBU documented fact of receiving by the official USD 400, the first part of unlawful benefit.
The SBU officers detained the offender according to Art. 208 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine at his workplace after he received second part of a bribe (USD 900). The intermediary involved by custom officer in bribe transferring was also detained.
The offenders were served a notice of suspicion in committing the crime stipulated by Part 3 Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The issue of choosing a measure of restraint is being settled.
Investigative actions are ongoing.
The detection operation was conducted jointly with the State Bureau of Investigation under the procedural supervision of the Military Prosecutor's Office.
