SBU liquidates gang of racketeers in Kyiv
The SBU together with the Police and the Prosecutor’s Office stopped the activity of a gang of racketeers who systematically extorted money from businessmen in Yahotyn district of Kyiv region.
The members of the gang – 10 Kyiv residents including former convicted – taxed local businessmen with from 5 to 10 thousand UAH per month. In case of refusal to pay the money the criminals threatened with physical intimidation and property destruction.
The law enforcers conducted 18 searches in the apartments of the criminals and possible places of their temporary residence in Kyiv, Yahotyn and Vasylkiv and confiscated 30 bank cards used for money transfer, knuckles, knives, ammunition and psychotropic substances.
A criminal case under Part 4 Article 189 (Extortion) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine was launched.
The issue of notifying the detained members of the gang of suspicion is being settled.
Urgent investigative actions are under way.
